Efficient adiabatic cooling for a pleasant workplace
Nedal Aluminium has been a specialist in aluminium extrusion for 80 years.
Through this process they make profiles and light poles. During this process a lot of heat is released. After extrusion the profiles or light poles come on a roller belt with a temperature of around 300 degrees Celsius. Employees who have to work near these roller belts suffer a lot from high temperatures on the work floor.
NEDAL Aluminium wanted to cool these places. Mechanical cooling was not an option given the open structure of the halls where work is done. The question was to BBHUM B.V. whether we had a solution with direct adiabatic cooling.
What were the requirements:
- The system must be absolutely hygienic
- Low maintenance
- Must be able to withstand a dirty environment
- There was a certain budget
- There must be a clear temperature drop in the workplace

Solution and Result
Solution
BBHUM B.V. has created a design in which fans are positioned at various locations in the factory hall that provide direct adiabatic cooling at the workplace. This cooling is created by using the evaporation energy of the water that is atomized. Every liter of water that is fully absorbed in the air provides 700 watts of cooling power. Regular air renewal is necessary to keep this process going well. Due to the open structure of the factory hall, this is no problem at all.
Result
During the very warm summer months that we have nowadays, the fans in combination with high-pressure misting offer a pleasant cooling at the workplace. Due to the relatively high starting temperature, good use can be made of the adiabatic cooling effect and a temperature reduction of up to 10 degrees Celsius is achieved, resulting in a pleasant workplace for the employees and higher productivity.

We have installed the following equipment
- Rotating fans in combination with high pressure nozzles
- High pressure pump
- Reverse osmosis
- UV disinfection
- Hygiene regulations against stagnant water
Maintenance cycle is once a year.
